Book Blogger Confessions (6)

Jun 18, 2012 by Kt Clapsadl

This meme is hosted by Tiger from Tiger's All Consuming Books and Karen from For What It's Worth on the first and third Monday of each month.

This week's question:

We have created a blogging time machine! Pretend you can start over. Knowing what you know now about blogging – what do you wish you did differently when it comes to creating your blog?

Honestly, I don't think I would start over. All the bumps and starts along the way, taught me what I know about blogging now. I needed all those experiences to make my blog what it is today. I'm not one to really wish to change the past about anything because I'm a firm believer in learning from your mistakes building you character and making you a better person.

That being said, if I had to choose one thing to do differently, I would have started scheduling out my posts earlier on. In the beginning, I wasn't very consistent with my review postings. Some days would have 3-4 reviews posted in one day, and then I wouldn't post another one for several days. I much prefer the consistency scheduling allows me.

Erm.. I just thought about something else I would change (I know, I know I said I don't believe in changing things, but this one isn't really an experience learner so it doesn't count. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.) If I could, I would go back to when I was creating the blog/email/twitter handles and I would make them all match. I just wish I had of made my email and twitter some form of A Book Obsession.. as it would have made it easier for readers to keep it associated with me and my blog. That's the biggest reason why I never change my avatar of a vamp mouth biting a red rose, as that consistency across all the different platforms hopefully helps make it obvious all the accounts belong to me.

My twitter handle doesn't match either but most people know me by @teamsheltie now (more than my blog name) so I'm reluctant to change it now.
I like how you mentioned it's all a learning experience. That's a good attitude. Just learn from it and make your blog better!

I hope people make the connection between my twitter handle. I have this worry that people who know me as @liddlshortydemo don't realize I'm also A Book Obsession.. It's probably just being silly as I'm sure they do, but irrational or not, it's still there.
I wouldn't start over either---it just would be to much work! I think what you learn as you go along is so much more important than being perfect :)

I've learned to just make my blog the best it can be for what I want. I have all these ideas for it, but I always make myself take a step back to really consider whether or not I will have the time and energy to keep up with them. More often than not the answer is no.
I agree that our mistakes make the blogs what they are now. But for me, it sure would have been nice to be able to avoid some of those mistakes!

Uh oh, sounds like you had some pretty big road blocks along the way.
I must be resistant to character building and such. I don't seem to have learned from my mistakes and either keep repeating them or making more. (sigh)

I think we all have a little bit of that in us. My pitfall is to save copies of reviews as I write them. You would think as many times as I have lost large portions of reviews due to glitches, etc, I would remember to constantly back things up. But Noooooo I have to be a blockhead.

I love that you learned along the way and no regrets about it. I agree with being consistant and doing the reviews.

I just figure the past is done, so why be sour about. It's better to have a positive attitude and move on.
