This Week's Question:

Issue Books: Which books have you found to be very rewarding when it comes to tackling tougher issues?

I actually haven’t read a lot of issue books. I tend to stick to paranormal books. I did read and enjoy Jackie Morse Kessler’s Hunger and Rage which portrayed anorexia and cutting combined in a paranormal setting. I really liked how she brought these issues to light without being preachy. I really need to read the 3rd installment, Loss.

I haven't read, or heard of, these books, but the covers are absolutely gorgeous. One of the books in my list, Laurie Halse Anderson's Wintergirls dealt with anorexia too. Here's my post: http://writergrrlreads.blogspot.ca/2012/05/tgif-2...

Thank you so much! I've put a lot of work into the design and images, so that is really nice to hear.
I haven't read this series yet, but I'm like you and like it when the issue is tackled but without it being in your face "preachy."

Preachy books drive me nuts, and are pretty much guaranteed to be a DNF for me.
I've heard of these but haven't read them either. I read paranormals as well, so this was a toughie! I did however read a lot of Sarah Dessen back in the dark days when paranormal YA books were hard to find. It was after grief of never finding one that I wandered into the "adult" books, basically not YA, and found a hoard of paranormals! Well, not a hoard, but as the years went by, just a few really, it became a hoard and then YA got more paranormals!

I try to balance between YA and Adult paranormals. Overall I do prefer adult books as when I read too many YAs in a row I'll get really agitated with the maturity and love triangles. So then I read several adult books to cleanse my pallet. But I still find myself going back to YAs as some of them have really amazing stories to tell.
Interesting choice. I haven't read this series yet, but I'll have to get to it some day!

Haha it sounds like your TBR pile is crazy like mine.
I hadn't heard of these books until today, but I read your review and immediately added it to my TBR list on goodreads! And the covers are just gorgeous!
