Book Blogger Confessions (10)

This meme is hosted by Midnyte Reader and Karen from For What It's Worth on the first and third Monday of each month.

This week's question:

November 5th: Should bloggers & authors discuss politics? Does that turn you off to a blogger or an authors books if they tweet/post about their political positions or do you appreciate their passionate point of view?

I really despise drama. I avoid it all costs. Mostly this is because I am not a confrontational person. In fact, I live in a constant state of cringing in the months leading up to the elections. So, obviously I avoid everything political when it comes to my blog and tweeting. I'd just rather stay out of things. I realize that there is probably a lot of times where there can be a drama free discussion and debate, but I just have no desire to take that risk.

As far as whether or not blogger and authors should discuss politics, I don't think I have the right to tell them what they can or can not do. Granted, I will "skip over" or ignore any political posts due to wanting to keep my head in the sand. Do I have my own opinion of each candidate's merit? Sure. But that is through my own research as I weed out the ridiculous bull crap and try and decide which one will be more likely to stick to their campaign layouts. So while I appreciate that authors and bloggers are passionate about politics, that will just be one section that I will pass on reading.

How about you guys, do you love political discussions or are you like me and wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole?

No, I do not enjoy political discussions for so many reasons. I'd rather talk about religion! I also don't feel smart enough to keep up with all the politicians and what they say and also I don't trust them, lol. But as you mentioned, I have no problem with other people's political discussions...I just don't really want to read them or chime in.

Haha, religion is a no fly zone for me. But that more stems from my own marriage since my hubby is Roman Catholic and I am UCC (a very relaxed Christian denomination). We have agreed to disagree and do not discuss religion with each other, and that has spilled over into the rest of my life as well. Everything is Switzerland with me.

I can skim over most of it and some people have really intelligent view points but it's not something that bothers me either way unless it's excessive or mean.

This year I've managed to avoid almost everything. I turned the TV off. I get too wound up over some of the crazy and it doesn't change anything so I'm avoiding it and just do the one thing I can do that counts - vote.

A little debating is good for the soul, I think, but most people don't know where to draw the line. It's so easy to get offended by opposing commentary when you feel strongly about something. It stinks that we can't be respectful when conversing about things of this nature.

I prefer when politics stay off my facebook stream, twitter stream and the blogs I read. I get enough of that elsewhere and it's not why I tune in to the people I tune into.
